It's about surviving, not thriving

Last week, I released a new class called High Heat Handbook. It’s an in-depth look at how to help our gardens survive the most difficult stretch of the North Texas summer.

At the beginning of class, I emphasize something I think all gardeners need to hear right now:

From late July through early September, the goal isn’t to have a garden that thrives. The goal is to have a garden that survives.

Everyone’s landscapes and gardens are struggling right now. Even experienced gardeners with well-established landscapes are dealing with stressed plants and gardens that simply don’t look very good. Mine included!

Focus on keeping your plants alive.

Most importantly, let go of the expectation that your garden should look beautiful right now. It probably won’t. This is why we focus our effort on the spring and fall growing seasons.

If you need help protecting your garden through the weeks ahead, High Heat Handbook is included with enrollment in The Dallas Garden School. Enrollment also includes next month’s live class, Cottage Cutting Garden with Cold-Hardy Annuals.

Do what you can to keep your garden alive this week, and give yourself some grace.

It’s not gonna be pretty, but we’ll make it through.
