Garden Gifts for Dad's Green Thumb

This Father's Day, give the gift of gardening!

Here are a few of my favorite tools and supplies that Dad is sure to love:

Hori Hori Knife

This garden knife by A.M. Leonard has become an extension of my arm, and I completely freak out when I can't find it. I use it to slice open bags of compost and mulch, transplant, weed, and properly space plants. The bright orange handle is my favorite feature. I can spot it easily in the garden when I accidentally leave it behind.

BBOUNDER lights

These are the only lights for indoor seed-starting that I use and recommend. They are very bright, extremely lightweight, and can be connected to save on outlet space. I've grown more than 10,000 seedlings using these lights.

Dallas Garden School Annual Membership

There is simply no better gift for a North Texas gardener! Surprise Dad with the most comprehensive gardening education available in Texas. Enrollment includes dozens of live classes, 40+ on-demand courses, and unlimited access to direct help from me.

Watering Wand

A watering wand is essential for hand-watering your garden without having to bend over. It directs water at the roots of the plants and delivers more water than a traditional hose nozzle. (Pro tip: Never leave your watering wand outdoors when freezing weather threatens.)

West County Gloves

I am a world-class glove destroyer. I didn't think any gloves could meet the demands of my job until I discovered these. Like my hori hori knife, I start to panic when I misplace these.

Felco Pruners

Felco is the industry standard for horticulture hand tools. These pruners will last decades.

The Vegetable Gardener's Bible

A must-read for any aspiring vegetable gardener. Edward C. Smith's principles are sound and sustainable. It's an excellent companion to my Growing Fruits & Vegetables Class.
